Nicolas Jackson starred as Senegal opened their AFCON campaign with a commanding 3-0 win over Botswana in Tangier.
The Bayern Munich forward scored both of Senegal’s first-half goals, breaking the deadlock in the 40th minute after a precise pass from Ismail Jakobs, and doubling the lead just before the hour mark from Ismaïla Sarr’s assist. Cherif Ndiaye added a late third to complete the scoring.
Senegal dominated throughout, with Sadio Mané, Iliman Ndiaye, and Jackson all denied by a series of outstanding saves from Botswana goalkeeper Goitseone Phoko.
Despite the Zebras’ resistance, Senegal controlled the game and rarely looked in danger, asserting their authority in Group D.
The victory puts the 2021 AFCON champions level on points with DR Congo ahead of their clash on Saturday. Botswana, meanwhile, remain in search of their first-ever AFCON win.
