The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the postponement of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration, initially scheduled to commence on Friday, January 31. The registration will now begin on Monday, February 3, 2025.

In a statement issued by JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, the examination body explained that the decision was taken to allow for critical adjustments to its registration templates.

“The postponement became necessary to allow the board to implement essential adjustments to its registration templates,” the statement read.

JAMB also revealed that the delay would enable it to conduct further scrutiny of some Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres after discovering that certain facilities had used deceptive methods to secure approval.

“These adjustments come in light of the recent suspension of certain law programmes at selected universities, as submitted to the board by the Council for Legal Education,” the statement added.

The board acknowledged the inconvenience the postponement may cause candidates and stakeholders, offering its sincere apologies for any disruption.

Suspension of Law Programmes in Eight Universities

Meanwhile, JAMB reaffirmed that it would not be processing admissions for the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme in eight Nigerian universities for the 2025/2026 academic session.

This follows a directive from the Council of Legal Education (CLE), the regulatory body overseeing legal education in Nigeria, which recently suspended the law programmes in the affected institutions.

The universities affected by the suspension are:
• Kwara State University, Malete, Ilorin, Kwara State
• Bingham University, Karu, Nasarawa State
• Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State
• Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta State
• Taraba State University, Jalingo, Taraba State
• Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo, Cross River State
• Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State
• Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State

JAMB stated that the CLE’s decision is binding, and as a result, candidates seeking admission into the LL.B programme in these institutions will not be considered for the 2025/2026 academic year.

UTME 2025 Registration and Expectations

JAMB, the body responsible for conducting the UTME—the entrance examination for Nigerian tertiary institutions—has assured prospective candidates that all necessary measures are being put in place to ensure a seamless registration process.

The board, which also manages the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) for admission into tertiary institutions, expects around 1.5 million candidates to register for the 2025 UTME.

With registration now set to commence on February 3, 2025, JAMB has urged candidates to remain patient and adhere strictly to the updated guidelines to avoid any complications during the process.
