Jannik Sinner produced a dominant display to sweep aside Andrey Rublev and book his place in the French Open quarter-finals on Monday night.

The world number one breezed past the Russian 17th seed 6-1, 6-3, 6-4 under the lights of Court Philippe Chatrier, underlining his status as the man to beat in Paris.

It was a night of calm brutality from the 23-year-old Italian, who avenged his injury-forced retirement against Rublev at the same stage in 2022.

Sinner saved two early break points and then never looked back, racing to a 5-0 lead and wrapping up the first set with barely a scratch.

“Things can go very quickly in a bad way,” he said afterwards. “I’m very happy to finish it in three. These night sessions in Paris are very special.”

Rublev, a ten-time Grand Slam quarter-finalist, had few answers. Sinner’s consistency and shot-making left the Russian chasing shadows for long spells, especially in the first two sets.

The third was more competitive, but Sinner’s serve never wavered. Rublev’s only real opening since the first game came and went, and when match point arrived, a net-clipped forehand from the Russian ended it all.

Sinner, now eyeing a third consecutive Grand Slam title, will face Alexander Bublik in the quarter-finals. He leads their head-to-head 3-1, though he did lose their last meeting in Halle last year.
