Jannik Sinner claimed his maiden Wimbledon crown and a fourth career Grand Slam title with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Carlos Alcaraz in Sunday’s men’s final at the All England Club.
The top-seeded Italian, who lost to Alcaraz in last month’s French Open final, made history as the first Italian man to win the Wimbledon singles title, sealing the triumph in three hours and six minutes with 40 winners and eight aces.
Sinner started brightly, breaking Alcaraz early, but the Spaniard recovered to snatch the opening set with a brilliant cross-court winner.
Undeterred, Sinner lifted his level, breaking once in each of the next three sets and maintaining composure in key moments to keep Alcaraz at bay.
The 22-year-old world No.1 closed out the match on his second championship point, dropping to his knees in celebration as Centre Court roared its approval.
“This was only a dream when I was young,” Sinner said in his on-court speech. “I’m just living my dream.”
Alcaraz, who was chasing a second Wimbledon title, praised his rival despite the defeat, calling the match “a great battle.”
