American singer Jason Derulo says he will no longer stay alone in a room with any female colleague, following a nearly two-year legal battle over sexual harassment allegations that he says have cost him millions in brand deals and damaged his professional relationships.
In a new interview with Graham Bensinger, Derulo described how the lawsuit—filed by aspiring singer Emaza Dilan and dismissed twice in other jurisdictions—has permanently changed his approach to workplace interactions.
“I will never be alone in a room with a woman that I work with… ever, ever again,” he said. “That case was dismissed twice. And I lost so many brand deals, relationships off of a story that was not even slightly believable. Why didn’t they post the dismissal at least? Wouldn’t that be fair?”
Dilan has recently refiled the lawsuit in New York after similar claims were thrown out on procedural grounds in California and Nevada. No court has yet ruled on the merits of the allegations.
Still, Derulo said the ongoing accusations have taken a heavy toll on his reputation and disrupted his career. The situation, he added, has forced him to adopt strict new boundaries in order to protect himself in future professional environments.
