Borussia Dortmund’s Jobe Bellingham will miss the Club World Cup quarter-final against Real Madrid after picking up a second yellow card in their 2-1 win over CF Monterrey.

The suspension dashes hopes of a first competitive showdown with his brother Jude, who plays for Madrid.

“It’s very, very bitter for him,” said Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl. “He was really looking forward to playing against his brother.”

Coach Niko Kovac added that Bellingham hadn’t realised a second yellow meant an automatic ban.

Jobe, 19, was booked for a late tackle on Monterrey’s Nelson Deossa in the 28th minute, following an earlier yellow in the group win over Ulsan HD. He’s started every game for Dortmund since joining in June.
