Paris Saint-Germain moved into a commanding position in the Champions League
round of 16 tie after a 5-2 first-leg victory over Chelsea.
Chelsea had twice fought back through Malo Gusto and Enzo Fernandez after goals
from Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembele, but the game turned when Filip
Jorgensen’s misplaced pass was intercepted, allowing Vitinha to score PSG’s third in
the 74th minute.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia then struck twice late on to give the French champions a
three-goal cushion heading into the return leg.
Chelsea coach Liam Rosenior defended Jorgensen after the costly error.
“Players make mistakes, and Filip is not the first one to do so. It is part of football, but
obviously it is bitter,” Rosenior said, adding the final stages were “crazy in many
aspects.”
PSG coach Luis Enrique praised his side’s resilience after the convincing win.
“We are very resilient. I think that is a word which defines our team,” he said.
