Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua knocked out Jake Paul in the sixth round of their much-criticised Netflix-backed fight in Miami on Friday.
Joshua’s size and power eventually told at the Kaseya Center after a scrappy contest, with the Briton flooring the YouTuber-turned-boxer twice in the fifth round before ending the fight with a crushing right hand in the sixth.
“It wasn’t the best performance, but the goal was to pin him down and hurt him,” Joshua said. “It took a bit longer than expected, but the right hand finally found its destination.”
Paul, who struggled to cope with Joshua’s physicality, admitted fatigue played a part. “I gave it my all,” he said. “He hits really hard. I just got tired handling his weight.”
The win was Joshua’s first in 15 months, and the former champion said his focus now turns to a potential blockbuster clash with Tyson Fury next year.
