Bayern Munich claimed the first edition of the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup, defeating Stuttgart 2–1 at the MHPArena to lift the trophy for a record 11th time.
The renamed showpiece, honouring Bayern’s late legendary captain, saw Harry Kane open the scoring midway through the first half.
The England striker, prolific against Stuttgart since his arrival in Germany, pounced on a defensive error and buried a precise finish into the bottom corner.
The hosts, buoyed by a vibrant atmosphere, responded with determination but found Manuel Neuer in imperious form.
The veteran goalkeeper produced key stops from Deniz Undav, Josha Vagnoman, and Nick Woltemade to preserve Bayern’s lead going into the break.
Stuttgart pushed hard again after halftime, forcing another brilliant save from Neuer when Jamie Leweling’s deflected strike seemed destined for goal.
Yet Bayern showed their clinical edge moments later, as debutant Luis Díaz rose to meet Serge Gnabry’s cross and doubled the advantage.
Leweling eventually pulled one back with a late header, but it proved no more than consolation. Despite the defeat, Stuttgart can take encouragement into the Bundesliga campaign after a summer in which only Enzo Millot has departed.
For Vincent Kompany, it marked a second trophy since taking charge, and a statement victory that brought the Super Cup back to Bavaria for the first time since 2022.
