Harry Kane finally lifted the first team trophy of his career on Saturday as Bayern Munich celebrated their Bundesliga title with a 2-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach, capping an emotional moment for the England striker who has waited over a decade for such glory.
Kane opened the scoring in the 31st minute with his 25th league goal of the season, setting the stage for a celebratory evening at the Allianz Arena.
After the final whistle, the 31-year-old was soaked in beer by jubilant teammates during the traditional German title party.
“It’s been a long time coming,” Kane told Sky Germany, shivering in soaked kit. “It’s cold, but there’s going to be a few more today for sure.”
Having lost six finals across his career and finishing as league runner-up with Tottenham, the Bundesliga crown represents a long-awaited breakthrough.
“It’s an incredible feeling… it’s worth the wait,” Kane said. “It’s been a lot of hard work, a lot of sacrifice in between, for moments like this.”
Kane also expressed optimism for the future with Bayern, calling this “just the first of many” trophies with the club under manager Vincent Kompany.
He reserved praise for long-time teammate Eric Dier, who will depart Bayern this summer and also celebrates his first career title.
Kane additionally sent his best wishes to Spurs, who are into the Europa League final against Manchester United.
“It’s been a tough season, but to reach the Europa League final is a great achievement,” he said. “I’ll be watching and hoping they can win… it could be a good month for a lot of Spurs fans.”
