Kano State Government Declares March 1 Sallah Holiday for Schools, Announces Resumption Dates
The Kano State Government has approved Sunday, March 1, 2026, as the official commencement date for the Eid al-Fitr (Sallah) holiday for all public and private primary and post-primary schools across the state.
The announcement was made on Wednesday in a statement issued by the Director of Public Enlightenment, Kano State Ministry of Education, Musbahu Aminu Yakasai, in line with the 2025/2026 academic calendar, which indicates that the second term will end on Saturday, February 28.
According to the statement, both day and boarding schools are to begin the Sallah break from March 1, with parents and guardians advised to ensure that pupils in boarding schools are conveyed home by the early hours of Friday, February 27, to enable a smooth transition into the holiday period.
The ministry further disclosed that boarding school pupils and students are expected to resume on Sunday, March 22, while day students will resume on Monday, March 23, 2026.
It added that the new term will run from March 22 to Saturday, April 18, 2026, as outlined in the approved academic calendar.
Schools across the state have been directed to strictly comply with the resumption schedule, warning that non-compliance will be regarded as a breach of the government’s directive.
The Commissioner for Education, Ali Makoda, urged parents, guardians, and school authorities to cooperate fully with the ministry to ensure adherence to the academic calendar without disruption.
Makoda also expressed appreciation to parents, guardians, and residents for their continued support, while wishing pupils and students a successful completion of the Ramadan fast and a peaceful and joyful Sallah celebration.
