KORDA STUNS ALCARAZ TO DUMP WORLD NO.1 OUT OF MIAMI OPEN.
Carlos Alcaraz crashed out of the Miami Open after a 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 defeat to
Sebastian Korda, who secured his first win over a world number one.
Korda recovered from missing a chance to close the match in the second set,
regaining control in the decider with a crucial break before sealing victory at the
second attempt.
He admitted it “feels great” and said he stayed composed despite the pressure, while
also praising Alcaraz’s all-around game.
The loss marks another early exit in Miami for Alcaraz, who had been in strong form
this season.
In the women’s draw, Aryna Sabalenka advanced with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Caty
McNally, later noting she was pleased to come through in straight sets after a tough
opening set.
Zheng Qinwen booked a clash with Sabalenka after beating Madison Keys, while
Elena Rybakina progressed comfortably and will face Talia Gibson, who continued
her impressive run with another upset.
