Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has declared the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) is determined to drastically reduce the influence of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano during the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting held in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano on Wednesday, Kwankwaso said the NNPP is resolute in ensuring the APC garners no more than 15,000 votes in the state’s next election cycle.

Reflecting on the party’s impressive performance in the 2023 governorship election, Kwankwaso noted that the NNPP secured a landslide victory with 1,019,602 votes. The APC followed with 890,705 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came a distant third, receiving just 15,957 votes.

The NNPP leader attributed the party’s success to its widespread appeal among Kano voters, even as a relatively new political entity that faced the challenges of a late campaign start. He described the 2023 victory as a “remarkable feat” and expressed confidence in the party’s ability to surpass its achievements in subsequent elections.

“Now, it’s our turn to diminish APC’s influence,” Kwankwaso said. “We will work tirelessly to ensure their votes are reduced to less than 15,000 in Kano come 2027.”

Kwankwaso, who was the NNPP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, called on party members to maintain unity and focus on advancing the party’s agenda. He urged stakeholders to mobilize grassroots support and consolidate NNPP’s presence in Kano and across the country.

“Unity is the key to our progress,” he emphasized. “We must remain steadfast, committed, and focused on the task ahead to ensure the NNPP continues to set the pace for transformative leadership in Nigeria.”

Kwankwaso also assured party faithful that the NNPP is not only committed to retaining its dominance in Kano but also expanding its influence nationally by building on the momentum gained in 2023.

With this bold declaration, the NNPP leader has set the tone for what promises to be a heated political contest in Kano come 2027. Political analysts have noted that Kwankwaso’s statement underscores the growing rivalry between the NNPP and APC in one of Nigeria’s most politically significant states.

As 2027 approaches, the political landscape in Kano is expected to witness intensified mobilization efforts by both parties, with the NNPP aiming to solidify its dominance and the APC striving to reclaim its lost ground.
