House of Representatives member and Chairman of the Committee on Housing and Habitat, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has confirmed that talks over Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) are ongoing, noting that the “door is still open.”

Jibrin, who featured on Channels Television’s Politics Today, underscored the political weight of Kano State in national elections, recalling the over one million votes cast there in 2023.

He argued that if Kwankwaso aligns with the APC, it could shift the political balance in Kano.

“Kwankwaso’s move to APC will likely carry the governor of Kano State along, and his supporters will follow,” Jibrin said.

When asked about possible resistance to the alliance, the lawmaker avoided direct references to former APC national chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, saying only: “I didn’t say it is the Gandujes. I never said that.” He attributed the delay to entrenched interests within the ruling party.

Jibrin, who has been championing dialogue and unity in national politics, said political negotiations require patience. “We’ve come a long way. Everything is possible when human beings are involved,” he noted.

Recently honoured as “Housing Friendly Legislator of the Year” at the Africa Housing Awards 2024, Jibrin continues to promote housing reforms while also engaging stakeholders in peace-building initiatives.

Analysts say a Kwankwaso-APC alliance would significantly strengthen the ruling party’s position ahead of the 2027 elections, giving it an edge in Kano and across the North.
