Kwara United are the new men’s champions of the President Federation Cup after defeating second-tier Abakaliki FC 4-3 on penalties in Lagos on Saturday.
The final at Mobolaji Johnson Arena ended goalless after 90 tense minutes, sending the contest straight into spot-kicks.
Abakaliki FC, who had stunned nine-time champions Enyimba and other top-tier clubs on their fairytale run, missed two penalties to hand Kwara United the trophy.
Victory not only brings silverware back to Ilorin but also secures Kwara United Nigeria’s second CAF Confederation Cup ticket for next season.
