Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Kyle Walker has expressed interest in leaving the club during the January transfer window to explore opportunities abroad.

The 34-year-old England defender, who has 18 months left on his contract, was omitted from City’s squad for their 8-0 FA Cup win over Salford.

Guardiola revealed that Walker discussed his intentions with director of football Txiki Begiristain on Thursday.

“Two days ago, Kyle asked to explore the options to play abroad,” said Guardiola. “He’s been crucial for us, but he now wants to see if he can play his last years in another country.”

Guardiola added that City will not block Walker’s departure, though any move will depend on the right conditions.

Walker’s desire to leave follows an earlier attempt to join Bayern Munich after City’s 2023 Treble triumph, a deal that fell through due to unmet financial terms.

Meanwhile, City are already bolstering their squad, securing a £33.6m deal for Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov and pursuing Palmeiras’ Vitor Reis and Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush.
