Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have impeached the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, due to multiple statutory and financial infractions.
Following the impeachment, Obasa was replaced by his deputy, Mojisola Meranda.
Mrs. Meranda, who represents Apapa Constituency 1, previously served as the Chief Whip of the House. Mojeed Fatai has been appointed as the new Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Obasa has been surrounded by a series of controversies regarding his financial dealings. This removal comes just a month after he was accused of allegedly spending N17 billion to repair a gate leading into the assembly.
