The Lagos State Government has announced plans to conduct the 2025 Trade Test for artisans and technicians across the state as part of ongoing efforts to boost technical capacity, job creation, and professional certification among skilled workers.
According to the Lagos State Examinations Board, the annual assessment is designed to evaluate the technical expertise, creativity, and practical knowledge of participants in various trades.
Speaking on the initiative, the Director and Registrar of the Board, Mr. Orunsolu Adebayo, said the test will consist of both theory and practical examinations to comprehensively assess candidates’ competence across different grades.
He explained that the written examination is scheduled for October 18, followed by the practical session on October 21, with tests to be held at designated centres including Government Technical Colleges in Ikotun and Epe, the Skill Acquisition Centre in Egbeda, and the Lagos State Examinations Board Headquarters.
Adebayo noted that the Trade Test will cover a broad range of vocational fields such as tailoring, electrical works, carpentry, catering, barbing, hairdressing, shoemaking, and several other trades essential to the state’s workforce development.
He emphasised that the programme serves as a gateway to formal recognition for artisans, enabling them to compete effectively in today’s evolving job market while contributing to Lagos’s industrial and economic growth.
“The Trade Test is more than just an examination — it’s a validation of skill, dedication, and technical excellence. It ensures that artisans and technicians are properly certified and equipped to meet modern labour demands,” Adebayo said.
He added that the test will be conducted in Grades III, II, and I, representing the beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels respectively.
Adebayo urged artisans across Lagos to take advantage of the opportunity, prepare diligently, and formalise their skills through the government’s certification platform.
He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to expanding vocational and technical education, describing it as a cornerstone of sustainable economic growth and youth empowerment.
“Through continuous skill development and certification, Lagos is building a workforce that’s not only competent but globally competitive,” he stated.
