The Lagos Women Run is stepping up its mission to empower women beyond the track with the introduction of a new skills acquisition and empowerment initiative ahead of this year’s race.

Set to hold its 10th edition on November 8, the annual All-Women 10km Run will kick off at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, and finish at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Arena, Onikan, under the inspiring theme “One Run, A Thousand Opportunities.”

Coordinator Tayo Popoola described this year’s milestone edition as a celebration of women’s resilience, the spirit of Lagos, and a decade of progress. According to her, the race has evolved into much more than a fitness event — it’s now a platform for empowerment, networking, and personal transformation.

“Over the years, the Lagos Women Run has given women a voice, a sense of belonging, and an avenue to rediscover themselves,” Popoola said. “Our new empowerment initiative is designed to help participants acquire skills that will open doors to greater opportunities and self-reliance.”

The Lagos Women Run Empowerment Program will run from November 3 to 6, featuring a four-day lineup of training sessions and workshops aimed at helping women develop practical skills, confidence, and business knowledge.

Popoola emphasized that the event remains inclusive and non-discriminatory, welcoming women of all ages and backgrounds. She highlighted how the race continues to promote mental well-being, fitness, and community bonding.

“It’s more than just running — it’s about women stepping out, finding purpose, and discovering strength within themselves,” she added. “Many participants have shared how the event helped them fight depression, build networks, and gain new perspectives on life.”

She also commended the Lagos State Government, particularly the Lagos State Sports Commission, for its continued partnership and unwavering support over the years, which has helped sustain the program’s growth and impact.

“We are grateful for the government’s collaboration and commitment to empowering women through sports and skills development,” Popoola said. “Together, we’re building a legacy that goes beyond the finish line.”

This year’s Lagos Women Run is expected to draw thousands of women from across the state and beyond — uniting them in fitness, empowerment, and purpose as the event celebrates a decade of transforming lives.
