LEWANDOWSKI STRIKES LATE AS BARCA EDGE ATLETICO TO GO SEVEN CLEAR.
Robert Lewandowski struck late as Barcelona beat 10-man Atlético Madrid 2-1 to
move seven points clear at the top of La Liga.
Atlético broke the deadlock when Giuliano Simeone brought down a long pass with
superb control before curling a precise finish beyond Barca goalkeeper Joan García
to ignite the Metropolitano.
Barcelona responded almost immediately, with Marcus Rashford combining neatly
with Dani Olmo before producing a composed finish beyond Juan Musso into the
corner to level the score.
The turning point came before the break when Nicolás González was sent off for
hacking down Lamine Yamal, handing the visitors a major advantage.
Barcelona piled on the pressure and found the winner in the 87 th minute, as
Lewandowski reacted quickest inside the box to guide a loose rebound over the line
after an initial effort was saved.
The win extends Barcelona’s unbeaten run and strengthens their grip on the title
race ahead of their Champions League clash with Atlético.
