Lionesses Break Italian Curse to Reach Euro Final

LIONESS

England advanced to the UEFA Women’s Euro final for the second tournament in a row after a dramatic 2-1 extra-time win over Italy, their first-ever victory against Le Azzurre in the competition.

Barbara Bonansea’s fierce first-half strike put Italy in front, but Sarina Wiegman’s side kept pushing and were eventually rewarded when teenage substitute Michelle Agyemang equalised in stoppage time.

The Lionesses dominated extra time and finally broke through when Beth Mead was brought down in the box. Chloe Kelly’s penalty was saved, but she reacted first to steer in the rebound.

It was a night of history for England and for Wiegman, who becomes only the second manager to reach three straight Women’s Euro finals, while Italy’s perfect record against England in the tournament came to an end.
