Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign Newcastle striker Alexander Isak for a British record fee of £125m, bringing a protracted summer pursuit close to completion.
The Sweden international is due to undergo a medical on Monday before finalising a six-year contract at Anfield. An earlier £110m bid was rejected in August, but the Reds have now secured their top attacking target before the transfer window closes.
Isak’s arrival follows Newcastle’s capture of Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart and caps a remarkable summer of change at Liverpool.
The club had already broken their transfer record by signing Florian Wirtz in a £100m deal, while further signings include Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Armin Pecsi and Giovanni Leoni.
The Isak deal lifts Liverpool’s total spending to around £416m excluding add-ons, though they have offset some of that outlay with sales including Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Caoimhin Kelleher, bringing in about £190m.
The spree may not be over, with talks ongoing for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi as Liverpool look to complete their rebuild.
