Liverpool are reportedly on the verge of finalizing a contract extension with first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker, ensuring the Brazilian shot-stopper remains a key figure at Anfield beyond his current deal.

Alisson, 32, delivered a career-best performance on Wednesday night, making nine crucial saves in Liverpool’s 1-0 Champions League victory over Paris Saint-Germain. His heroics set a new club record for the most saves in a Champions League game since data tracking began.

Despite recurring injury issues in recent seasons, Alisson remains indispensable to the Premier League leaders. However, with just two years remaining on his contract, speculation has swirled about potential interest from Saudi clubs, especially as Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili is set to arrive at Anfield this summer.

According to Fichajes, Liverpool are now “very close” to securing an extension for Alisson, having fended off interest from European and overseas clubs. The club views the goalkeeper as a cornerstone of their sporting project, which is key to attracting top talent.

Since his £52.5m move from Roma in 2018, Alisson has been a pivotal figure in Liverpool’s success, recording 126 clean sheets in 289 appearances. He will be aiming for his 10th shutout of the season when Arne Slot’s men face Southampton this weekend.

While Alisson’s renewal seems imminent, Liverpool fans await updates on other key players, with contract talks ongoing for Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold. While Salah and Van Dijk are expected to extend if terms align, Alexander-Arnold’s situation is more uncertain, with Real Madrid still interested in securing the right-back on a free transfer.
