Liverpool will be without Trent Alexander-Arnold for Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Newcastle after the right-back suffered an ankle injury during their Champions League defeat to PSG.
Manager Arne Slot confirmed Alexander-Arnold will return before the end of the season but admitted his absence creates a defensive headache, with Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez also nursing injuries. Ibrahima Konaté remains a doubt but could feature if he proves his fitness in training.
“Trent is unavailable for the final. We’re still assessing how long he’ll be out, but we expect him back before the end of the season,” Slot said.
His injury opens the door for Jarell Quansah, who has impressed in recent games and received an England call-up from Thomas Tuchel. Slot praised the 22-year-old’s development, highlighting his composure and versatility.
“He’s no longer just a young talent—he’s proven himself at this level. His mentality and performances show why he deserved the England call-up,” Slot added.
With both Liverpool and Newcastle dealing with key injuries, the Wembley showdown promises to be a test of squad depth as both sides battle for the first domestic silverware of the season.
