Liverpool Plot Record £120m Swoop for Newcastle’s Alexander Isak

LIVERPOOL

Liverpool have approached Newcastle United over a sensational move for Alexander Isak that could smash both their own and the British transfer record.

Despite having already spent more than £210 million this summer, including £116 million on Florian Wirtz, the Reds have signalled their intent to strengthen further as they prepare to defend their Premier League title.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed Liverpool have initiated club-to-club talks with Newcastle, while journalist David Ornstein confirmed the Reds have expressed interest in a deal worth around £120 million for the 25-year-old Swedish striker.

Newcastle, however, insist Isak is not for sale and are reportedly keen to offer him a new contract. Yet the scale of Liverpool’s approach could test the Magpies’ resolve.

If Liverpool do secure Isak, it would likely pave the way for Darwin Nunez’s departure to balance the books after a summer outlay exceeding £300 million.

Isak has scored an impressive 62 goals in 109 appearances for Newcastle and has long been admired by Liverpool, who see him as a potential new No. 9 under manager Arne Slot.

The Swedish international is believed to be open to a switch to Anfield ahead of the new season.
