Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has set his sights on their upcoming Champions League battle with Liverpool after a dominant 4-1 victory over Lille on Saturday.
PSG put on a first-half masterclass, scoring all four goals before the break to extend their unbeaten run to 10 matches across all competitions.
“It was our best first half of the season,” Enrique said. “Now, we must focus on the two games against Liverpool, recover well, and be ambitious.”
The Spanish coach acknowledged the challenge ahead, describing Liverpool as the most in-form team in Europe.
“This could have been a Champions League final,” he added. “We’ll have to play to our strengths.”
Liverpool, currently leading the Premier League, topped the table in the Champions League league phase, while PSG finished 15th and had to beat Brest in the playoffs to reach the last 16.
The two sides last met in the group stage of the 2018 competition, with each winning at home.
Enrique sees similarities between Lille and Liverpool’s style of play and took encouragement from PSG’s pressing game.
“We forced Lille into long balls, preventing them from building out from the back,” he said. “It will be different against Liverpool, of course, but we are in our best form of the season.”
Despite facing a formidable opponent, Enrique made it clear that PSG won’t abandon their attacking philosophy. “We won’t sit back—we’ll attack and try to use that to our advantage.”
PSG will host Liverpool in the first leg of their last-16 tie on Wednesday, with the return leg set for March 11 at Anfield.
