Luis Enrique: ‘We Want to Keep Making History’ as PSG Prepare for Super Cup

August 13, 2025

Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique says his side remain hungry for more glory as they prepare for Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup, even with only a week of training behind them and the high-profile departure of Gianluigi Donnarumma looming.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Enrique acknowledged the unusual preparation period: “It’s very different from what we usually do, but the calendar means we had to take a three-week break. I don’t know what level we’ll be able to offer.”

On Donnarumma’s exit, the Spaniard was full of praise but firm in his decision. “These are always difficult decisions to make.

Gigio is without doubt one of the best in his position. He’s still a better person. We’re looking for a different kind of keeper. It’s my decision and that of the club, which supports me.”

Enrique insisted PSG’s targets remain as ambitious as ever: “What we did last season was a dream for all the fans, the club and the players.

Our goal is a second Champions League. No one thought we could win it last year and we proved them wrong. Winning another will be very difficult, but we’re happy to have this dream.”

Looking ahead to facing Tottenham, Enrique admitted the lack of recent work together is no excuse.

“It’s difficult because Tottenham have changed manager and players. We only have a week’s training but that’s no excuse.”

He also addressed the Ballon d’Or discussion, saying individual accolades matter less than team success: “I think this trophy is important for football people, but our only objective as a team is to win collective trophies. The individual trophies will come from that.”

Enrique stressed that PSG’s motivation comes from their togetherness and style: “What has united us and characterised us is a great level of play, with a lot of stars but all at the service of the team. We can still make history this season. That’s the real motivation.”
