Lyon continued their strong start in the UEFA Europa League with a 2-0 victory over Red Bull Salzburg, extending their run to just two defeats in their last 34 group or league phase fixtures.

Martin Satriano headed in early after goalkeeper Alexander Schlager’s misplaced pass gifted possession to Adam Karabec, who supplied the assist.

The Austrian side’s best chance came when Pavel Sulc saw his penalty saved, but they struggled to create much against Paulo Fonseca’s dominant hosts.

Karabec remained at the heart of Lyon’s play and eventually delivered again, crossing for Ruben Kluivert to nod in just before the hour and seal a comfortable win.

The result leaves Lyon joint top of their group with six points, while Salzburg sit bottom without a point from their opening two games.
