Lyon continued their strong home form with a 2-1 victory over Go Ahead Eagles, securing their eighth home win in 10 matches across all competitions and keeping their place at the top of the Europa League league-phase standings.
The match exploded into life with three goals in the first 11 minutes. Afonso Moreira finished off a sharp team move to put Lyon ahead, but the lead barely lasted.
Corentin Tolisso was caught in possession, allowing Milan Smit to fire home his eighth goal of the season.
Lyon responded quickly, regaining the lead when Jari De Busser parried Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ long-range effort into the path of Pavel Sulc, who converted from close range.
Martin Satriano later struck the post as Lyon pushed for a third.
Moreira threatened again early in the second half, but Go Ahead Eagles stayed in the contest, with Jakob Breum forcing Remy Descamps into a save from distance.
Still, the visitors never found a breakthrough, and Lyon held on for their fifth win in six Europa League matches.
The French side remain flawless at home in the competition and are the only team yet to concede after half-time this season.
Dutch teams continue to struggle against French opposition too, with the unbeaten run now stretching to seven meetings.
Go Ahead Eagles, winless in six away games, will hope their efforts are enough to keep them in playoff contention.
