Nigeria head coach Justine Madugu believes the Super Falcons are well-placed to reclaim the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title as they prepare to face hosts Morocco in Saturday’s final in Rabat.
The Falcons arrived in the Moroccan capital on Wednesday and held their first training session on Thursday at the Olympic Stadium, where they will seek a record-extending 10th WAFCON crown.
Madugu’s side edged holders South Africa 1-0 in the semi-finals, with defender Michelle Alozie grabbing a late winner, while Morocco reached the final after edging Ghana 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw.
Speaking to NFF Media, Madugu expressed confidence in his team’s preparation and tactical approach.
“We thank God for making it to the final. I want to assure you that we are not going to relent or take our eyes off the ball,” he said. “We will assess Morocco just like we’ve done with our other opponents and come up with a game plan that works.”
Nigeria have scored 11 goals and conceded just once, a penalty from South Africa’s Linda Motlhalo – and are led in attack by one of the tournament’s top scorers, Chiwendu Ihezuo.
Saturday’s showdown will be Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON final. The Super Falcons have never lost in the championship match since the tournament began in 1998.
Their last meeting with Morocco came in the 2022 semi-finals, where Nigeria lost on penalties after finishing with nine players.
This final promises to be the most-anticipated clash of the tournament, pitting Africa’s dominant force against a fast-rising host nation.
