Manchester United dropped plans to wear LGBTQ+ support jackets ahead of their Premier League clash with Everton after defender Noussair Mazraoui declined to participate, citing his Muslim faith.
Traditionally, United players have worn pride-themed gear during the Rainbow Laces campaign, but this year’s walk-out jacket initiative was shelved when Mazraoui, a summer signing from Bayern Munich, informed teammates of his stance.
To avoid singling him out, the squad collectively chose not to wear the jackets, with the decision made just hours before kickoff.
