Manchester City are stepping up talks with Bournemouth over Antoine Semenyo as they look to
trigger the winger’s £65 million release clause early in the January transfer window.
City have been locked in a battle with Manchester United for Semenyo’s signature, but the
Ghana international is understood to be leaning towards a move to the Etihad Stadium.
While Liverpool have been loosely linked, there has been no formal approach from Anfield as
things stand.
Bournemouth would prefer to delay any sale until after their January 7 fixture against
Tottenham, with the club lacking an immediate replacement and facing a demanding schedule.
City, however, are keen to complete the deal as soon as the window opens, ideally before their
January 4 clash with Chelsea, believing Semenyo can quickly adapt to Pep Guardiola’s system.
The release clause expires on January 10, and City are confident of making progress on both
financial terms and personal agreements in the coming days, hoping early groundwork will allow
them to fend off any late rival interest.
