Manchester City have been dealt another defensive setback as Nathan Ake is expected to be sidelined for an extended period after picking up an injury in Saturday’s FA Cup fifth-round clash against Plymouth Argyle.
The Dutch defender was forced off at halftime during the 3-1 victory at the Etihad, adding to City’s growing list of unavailable players.
With three senior centre-backs already out, Ake’s absence further complicates Pep Guardiola’s defensive options ahead of a crucial Premier League fixture against Nottingham Forest.
Guardiola expressed his frustration over the situation, saying, “Now again we have a central defender out for a long time. I think we’ll miss Nathan.”
Despite the setback, City secured their place in the FA Cup quarter-finals with a comeback win, overturning an early Plymouth lead through goals from Nico O’Reilly and Kevin De Bruyne.
