Former Senator Kabiru Marafa has formally resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing injustice, neglect, and the worsening security crisis in Zamfara State as reasons for his decision.

Marafa, who served as the Tinubu/Shettima 2023 Presidential Campaign Coordinator in Zamfara, confirmed his resignation in a text message to Channels Television on Sunday.

His decision came shortly after a two-day meeting of his political structure, held between Wednesday and Thursday, where stakeholders unanimously resolved to leave the APC.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the group expressed deep concern over Zamfara’s escalating insecurity, pointing to recent statistics ranking the state highest in nationwide kidnapping cases.

They accused the Federal Government of politicizing security during the recent Kaura Namoda bye-election, alleging that security agencies were deployed to secure APC’s electoral victory instead of protecting citizens.

On political appointments, Marafa’s camp lamented what they described as deliberate marginalization of Zamfara, despite the state’s significant support for APC in the 2023 presidential election. They noted that while other North-West states were allotted multiple ministerial positions, Zamfara received only one, and communities devastated by banditry have seen little or no federal intervention.

The communiqué, signed by Comrade Bashir Muhammad Mafara (Chairman) and Dr. Mannir Bature Tsafe (Secretary), added that the group will soon declare its next political direction in line with the aspirations of the people of Zamfara.
