Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has downplayed his team’s Premier League title chances despite sitting second in the standings, just four points behind leaders Liverpool.
Speaking ahead of Thursday’s West London derby against Fulham, Maresca emphasized improving the team rather than chasing the title.
“We’re ahead of expectations in terms of performance and points, but our focus is on progress, not pressure,” the 44-year-old said.
Chelsea’s unbeaten run ended with a 0-0 draw against Everton, but Maresca remains cautious, even as his side holds an eight-point advantage over defending champions Manchester City.
“City are struggling now but will bounce back. Liverpool have been fantastic, but for us, it’s about consistent improvement,” he added.
Injury concerns persist for Chelsea, with Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile sidelined, while Romeo Lavia remains unavailable. Mykhailo Mudryk is also out due to suspension following a doping issue he denies.
