Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca said he appreciated the backing of the club’s supporters after they sang his name during Tuesday’s 3-1 League Cup quarter-final win over Cardiff.
Chelsea reached the semi-finals thanks to a brace from Alejandro Garnacho and a Pedro Neto goal, sealing only their second win in six matches.
The result came days after Maresca admitted he felt a lack of support following recent criticism of his rotation policy.
“I’m just happy. We’re going to play another semi-final and I think it’s what the fans deserve,” Maresca said. “It was a great moment. I really appreciate it. Overall, the fans have always been there.”
The Italian insisted his focus remained on the team rather than off-field speculation. “I didn’t speak with anyone. I just focused on Cardiff,” he said. “I’ve been happy since day one.”
Maresca also praised his players after making 11 changes for the tie. “These are tricky games,” he said. “You need to pay attention and do the right things.”
