Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca says signing a new central defender is now a priority after Levi Colwill suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury that is expected to rule him out for most of the 2025-26 season.
The 22-year-old sustained the injury just two days into pre-season training, leaving Maresca with Trevoh Chalobah, Wesley Fofana, Tosin Adarabioyo, Benoit Badiashile, and Josh Acheampong as his current options in defence.
Speaking after Friday’s 2-0 friendly win over Bayer Leverkusen at Stamford Bridge, the Italian confirmed the club will enter the market.
“It’s a priority for me to get a new centre-back. We will see if we go for it,” he said.
Chelsea open their Premier League campaign at home to Crystal Palace on August 17.
