FC Porto have appointed Argentine Martin Anselmi as their new head coach following the dismissal of Vítor Bruno, the club confirmed on Monday.

The 39-year-old has signed a contract until 2027 and arrives from Mexican side Cruz Azul.

Anselmi, who watched Porto’s recent 1-1 draw with Santa Clara at Estádio do Dragão, will officially take charge on Thursday in a crucial Europa League clash against Maccabi Tel Aviv, where Porto must win to advance to the playoffs.

Joining him on the coaching staff are assistants Luis Pastur and Facundo Oreja, fitness coach Diego Bottaioli, and goalkeeping coaches Dario Herrera and Diogo Almeida.

Anselmi gained recognition in Ecuador, leading Independiente del Valle to multiple titles, including the Copa Sudamericana and Recopa Sudamericana, before moving to Cruz Azul in 2024, where he guided the team to the Mexican Clausura final.

FC Porto hope Anselmi’s success in South America and recent achievements in Mexico will bring a fresh perspective as they aim to challenge for domestic and European honors.
