As Nigeria marks 65 years of independence, Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has urged citizens to hold fast to unity and optimism in the face of ongoing challenges.

He expressed strong belief that the economic strategies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, combined with the sacrifices of Nigerians, will yield success if the nation remains steadfast.

In a message signed personally, Governor Mbah acknowledged that this year’s celebration may be more subdued, but insisted that it does not diminish the significance of Nigeria’s achievements over the decades.

He highlighted that at 65, the nation must be reminded of its capacity for great accomplishments when its people act in concert, and that lasting progress often demands sacrifices today for gains tomorrow.

“The commemoration may be modest, but our strides as a nation remain significant,” he said. He urged citizens to renew their commitment to the country, renew their faith in unity, and maintain the optimism that has carried Nigeria this far.

Turning to his administration’s agenda in Enugu State, Mbah reiterated a development agenda based on inclusion and equity. He pointed to progress such as: the revival of dormant state assets; bolstered security measures; the rollout of 260 Smart Green Schools; establishment or upgrading of 260 Type-2 primary health centers across rural areas; and improvements in transportation and infrastructure to make daily commuting smoother and more efficient.

“We are staying the course. No one will be left behind,” he affirmed, pledging that his administration would continue to direct resources toward sustainable growth and inclusive benefit for all Ndi Enugu.

As Nigerians raise flags to mark the day, Governor Mbah called on all to renew their resolve to build a stronger, unified nation.
