MOROCCO HANDED AFCON TITLE AFTER CAF OVERTURNS FINAL RESULT.
Morocco has been declared the winner of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after
The Confederation of African Football overturned the final result following Senegal’s
controversial walk-off.
Senegal had originally won 1-0 after extra time, but CAF ruled the match forfeited,
awarding Morocco a 3-0 victory. “Senegal is declared to have forfeited the final
match,” the governing body said.
The decision stems from Senegal’s refusal to continue playing during stoppage time
after a penalty was awarded to Morocco, a move CAF deemed a breach of
regulations.
Morocco’s football federation said the appeal was about “the application of the
competition’s regulations,” while Senegal’s FA hit back, calling the ruling “an unfair,
unprecedented and unacceptable decision.”
Journalist Maher Mezahi noted the emotional fallout remains unchanged. “We
cannot erase the final 16 minutes… we cannot erase the feelings of seeing Senegal
lift the trophy,” he said.
Senegal is expected to challenge the verdict at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
