Former First Lady of Ondo State, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has openly endorsed Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, highlighting his promise to serve a single four-year term if elected.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), she commended Obi’s resolve, likening it to the visionary leadership of Singapore’s former Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew, whose transformative policies elevated the country to global prominence.

Akeredolu described Obi as a “principled and frugal” leader whose integrity and personal discipline stand in stark contrast to the entrenched corruption eroding Nigeria’s development prospects.

“I stand with Peter Obi,” she declared.

According to Mrs Akeredolu’s, Peter Obi’s one-term promise could spur transformative leadership Nigeria urgently needs.

The endorsement has sparked debate across social media, with supporters hailing it as a courageous vote of confidence in Obi’s reformist agenda.

Many users echoed Akeredolu’s belief that a single focused tenure could dismantle systemic graft, boost production, and reset Nigeria’s trajectory for sustainable growth, as evident in trending hashtags #ANewNigeria and #OneTermEnough.

However, critics have questioned Akeredolu’s political motives and past involvement in Ondo State politics, suggesting her support may carry strategic and symbolic undertones.

This comes amid Obi’s credibility among voters, especially young Nigerians yearning for credible leadership, showcasing mounting elite momentum behind his potential 2027 presidential bid.
