Napoli were made to work hard but eventually edged newly-promoted Pisa 3-2 at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, keeping their perfect start to the Serie A campaign intact.
The champions struggled to find rhythm early on before Leonardo Spinazzola set up Billy Gilmour for the opener in the 39th minute.
Pisa threatened throughout and were rewarded when M’Bala Nzola equalised from the spot midway through the second half.
Spinazzola struck again with a superb finish to restore Napoli’s lead before substitute Lorenzo Lucca added a third, which proved decisive after Lorran’s stoppage-time reply gave the visitors late hope.
The win makes it four from four for Antonio Conte’s side, who extended their unbeaten home run in Serie A to 13 matches.
