Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central has formally resumed her duties at the National Assembly after months of suspension, insisting that she will not apologize for what she termed a principled stand against injustice.

On Tuesday, the lawmaker regained access to her Senate office at the Assembly complex after it was unsealed by an official of the Sergeant-at-Arms.

Speaking to journalists shortly after, she said she would not delve deeply into details for now but promised to reveal more in the coming weeks.

“I am going to be quite limited with what I’ll say. In the weeks to come, I will have much to say,” Natasha told reporters.

She explained that no official communication had reached her about any specific conditions tied to her return. However, she expressed unease about reports suggesting that a motion could be introduced to compel her to issue an apology.

“I am concerned about what kind of apology they expect from me. You cannot apologize for an injustice,” she said firmly.

The senator, who had earlier been suspended under controversial circumstances, maintained that her removal was unfair.

She stressed that resuming her legislative responsibilities should not be contingent on tendering an apology for speaking out.

Looking back on the suspension period, Natasha reflected on the difficulties she and her supporters endured. She offered gratitude to her constituents in Kogi Central, her family, and colleagues who remained steadfast throughout the ordeal.

“In everything, it just shows that sometimes it is good to put the institutions to test. We cannot be cowed in the face of injustice. No one is more Nigerian than us,” she remarked, reinforcing her call for resilience in the face of political adversity.

Beyond her personal experience, she urged Nigerians to hold on to hope despite the country’s challenges. According to her, the struggles faced today are not the end of the road, as “there is light at the end of the tunnel.”

Her return marks a significant moment in the ongoing standoff between Natasha and the Senate leadership, with her refusal to back down signaling that she intends to continue pushing against what she perceives as institutional oppression.
