The Nigerian Economic Society (NES) and its partners have renewed their commitment to steering Nigeria toward economic transformation and greater financial stability.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, President and Chairman of the NES Council, Professor Adeola Adenikinju announced preparations for the Society’s 66th Annual Conference.
He stressed that while some progress has been made in stabilising the economy, much more needs to be done to achieve sustainable growth.
“The message is clear: the momentum for economic transformation is visible, but it is not yet sufficient. We must turn our fragile economic stability into transformative economic expansion,” Adenikinju said.
The 66th Annual Conference, slated for September 8–11, will focus on the theme “Rethinking Africa’s Development: Pathways to Economic Transformation and Social Inclusion in a Changing Global Landscape.”
The gathering, organised in partnership with the African Development Bank and other stakeholders, is expected to bring together policymakers, academics, and industry leaders to generate actionable strategies for growth.
According to Adenikinju, the forum will challenge participants to move beyond inherited assumptions and design new, practical roadmaps for Africa’s economic and social prosperity.
“Africa is not short of talent, ideas, or entrepreneurial grit,” he noted. “The real challenge lies not in the absence of good policy ideas, but in implementing them in ways that deliver tangible improvements to people’s lives.”
While acknowledging that no single conference can resolve all of Nigeria’s complex economic issues, Adenikinju emphasised the importance of dialogue and collaboration in shaping evidence-based solutions.
