Sixteen-year-old Rio Ngumoha made history on his debut as Liverpool’s youngest ever goalscorer, striking in the 100th minute to snatch a 3-2 victory over Newcastle at St. James’ Park.

The Premier League champions had gone 2-0 up through Ryan Gravenberch and Hugo Ekitike after Anthony Gordon’s red card, but the hosts battled back with goals from Bruno Guimaraes and William Osula to level the contest.

Just when it looked as though Newcastle would take a point, Ngumoha capped a flowing move deep into stoppage time to hand Liverpool back-to-back wins in their title defence.

“It’s a dream debut for him, but it all starts now,” captain Virgil van Dijk said after the match, praising the youngster while stressing the need to stay grounded.

The defeat leaves Newcastle winless after two games and facing further uncertainty over star striker Alexander Isak, whose future remains unresolved with the transfer window closing in a week.
