As Nigeria marks its 65th year of independence, the Federal Government has affirmed that President Bola Tinubu’s economic and governance reforms under the “Renewed Hope Agenda” are already showing positive results.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, declared that the administration is achieving early wins on multiple fronts.

According to Akume, the government is beginning to see easing inflation, renewed interest from foreign investors, expanded job creation avenues for the youth, and bolstering of social intervention programmes to protect the most vulnerable, all of which he said demonstrate that the reforms, though bold and sometimes difficult, are necessary to reposition Nigeria for sustainable growth.

Akume stressed that the Renewed Hope Agenda is more than just a slogan: it is a practical framework meant to evoke national rebirth, inclusivity, and long-term development. He explained that the SGF’s office has played a pivotal role in coordinating policies and ensuring the President’s priorities translate into tangible change on the ground.

Speaking under the theme of Nigeria’s anniversary, “Nigeria at 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation”, Akume reminded citizens that nation-building is a participatory endeavour. He said both government and individuals must take responsibility if the country is to overcome its challenges.

He also outlined a slate of anniversary events, including a campus debate on September 30 and President Tinubu’s national broadcast on October 1.

Akume called on Nigerians to rally behind the reforms, suggesting that if the current momentum is sustained, more dividends would accrue.

He acknowledged that Nigeria is still a work in progress but expressed optimism that with renewed hope, shared responsibility, and collective resolve, the nation’s best days lie ahead.
