Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has appealed to Nigerians to give their full support to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ongoing reforms, insisting that the sacrifices being made today are necessary steps toward building a stronger, more prosperous nation.

Akume made the call in Abuja on Sunday while delivering the vote of thanks at the Inter-denominational Church Service held at the National Ecumenical Centre, one of the major events commemorating Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

According to him, nation-building cannot be left to government alone but must be a collective responsibility.

He urged citizens to remain patient and constructive as the administration tackles entrenched challenges that have hindered Nigeria’s development for decades.

“Under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, our country is undergoing bold reforms that are not designed for quick fixes but for enduring transformation,” Akume said. “The challenges are deep-seated, yet this administration is determined to confront them decisively.”

The SGF acknowledged that the current economic pains being experienced by citizens are transitional, assuring that reforms across critical sectors, such as the economy, healthcare, education, food security, energy, employment and infrastructure, are aimed at ensuring long-term growth and stability.

“This is the time to reignite our national spirit, convert obstacles into opportunities, and press forward with hope that is anchored on tangible action,” he added.

In his sermon at the service, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, Founder of Sword of the Spirit Ministries, underscored unity as Nigeria’s greatest strength. He urged the people to close ranks with their leaders, stressing that only collective effort can enable the country attain its rightful place among the comity of nations.

The ceremony was graced by top government officials and dignitaries, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who represented President Tinubu; First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, represented by Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi; Minister of Finance, Wale Edun; Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Esther Walson-Jack; the nation’s Service Chiefs; and members of the diplomatic corps.

The inter-denominational worship, themed “The Power of Unity in Building a Great Nation”, formed part of the series of activities lined up to celebrate Nigeria’s 65th independence anniversary.
