Nigeria opened their bid for a record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations crown with a confident 3-0 win over Tunisia on Sunday in Casablanca.
Asisat Oshoala put the Super Falcons ahead in the fourth minute, bundling home from close range after Rinsola Babajide’s low inswinging free kick caused chaos in the Tunisian box.
Babajide, who switched allegiance from England to Nigeria last year, doubled the lead in first-half stoppage time, drilling a shot past goalkeeper Soulaima Jobrani to claim her first senior international tournament goal.
Nigeria remained dominant after the break and added a third in the 84th minute when Chinwendu Ihezuo tucked away Ashleigh Plumptre’s cross from the left.
The victory places Nigeria at the top of Group B on goal difference over Algeria, who edged Botswana 1-0 thanks to Ghoutia Karchouni’s early strike.
