Team Nigeria will depart for China on May 5 ahead of the 2025 World Athletics Relays, set to take place at the Guangdong Olympic Stadium on May 10 and 11.
With most athletes currently competing in meets across the United States, the early departure is aimed at giving the team ample time to train together and fine-tune baton exchanges before the two-day event kicks off.
Nigeria will compete in four relay events: the men’s and women’s 4x100m, as well as the mixed 4x100m and 4x400m.
Notably absent is the men’s 4x400m team, which suffered disqualification in the final at the Paris 2024 Olympics for a lane violation.
Tobi Amusan headlines the women’s contingent, joined by Favour Ofili, Tiana Eyakpobeyan, Rosemary Chukwuma, Patience Okon-George, Omolara Ogunmakinju, Success Umukoro and Jennifer Chukwuka.
The men’s lineup features Udodi Onwuzurike, Favour Ashe, Usheoritse Itsekiri, Alaba Akintola, Karlington Anunagbo, Chidi Okezie, Samson Nathaniel and Emmanuel Ojeli.
This year’s Relays mark the final major international assignment under the current AFN board, with federation elections scheduled for next month.
