Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have expressed concern that Nigeria is drifting towards authoritarian rule under the current administration.
In their Eid-el-Maulud goodwill message, the PDP Governors’ Forum, chaired by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, congratulated Muslims across the country and urged them to emulate the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
The statement, signed by the forum’s Director General, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, highlighted the Prophet’s message of peace, tolerance, and compassion, which they said remained relevant in building a stable and united Nigeria.
“Today, our country is at a crossroad as Nigerians get disconnected from the constituted services they deserve. As we inch daily towards full-blown dictatorship with its attendant abuse of power and as citizens live in abject penury in the face of plenty, leadership is once again called to urgently address insecurity, our compromised judicial system, and failed economic policies resulting in hunger, poverty, and unemployment,” the governors warned.
They urged Nigerians, particularly Muslims, to let the Prophet’s values of humility, accountability, and justice guide their conduct, adding that these virtues must also underpin governance.
